Saucier is a free recipe app for iPhone and iPad. It saves recipes from any website, Instagram or TikTok, keeps them in a library that syncs over your own iCloud account, and reads them back to you while you cook.

The questions below come up most often. For anything else there is help and support, or email help@saucier-app.com.

Is Saucier free?

Yes. Free to download, with no subscription, no in-app purchases, no ads and no account to create. Saucier is a side project built in spare time rather than a business. If that ever changes, recipes you have already saved will stay available to you.

What do I need to run it?

An iPhone or iPad running iOS 26 or later. Ask Saucier additionally needs a device with Apple Intelligence available and switched on. Meal planning works on any supported device. On-device nutrition estimates need Apple Intelligence; USDA lookups need a connection.

Is there a Mac, Android or web version?

No. Saucier is iPhone and iPad only, and there is no plan for other platforms at the moment. If you cook from a Windows laptop or an Android phone, another app will serve you better.

Where are my recipes stored?

On your device, and synced through your own private iCloud account. Saucier has no server, so your recipes are never uploaded to one and nobody at Saucier can read them.

Does Saucier track me or show ads?

No. There is no analytics SDK, no advertising network and no third-party tracking of any kind in the app.

Which recipe websites work?

Effectively all of them. Most publish machine-readable recipe data that Saucier reads directly. Where a page publishes none — an Instagram caption written as a story, say — Apple Intelligence reads the prose on your device and produces the ingredients and steps.

Can I save from Instagram and TikTok?

Yes, via the share sheet. Saucier reads the recipe out of the caption. It does not transcribe a video’s audio.

Does Ask Saucier send my questions to a server?

No. It runs on Apple Intelligence’s on-device model, so your questions and your recipes stay on your device and it works with no signal. Voice input uses iOS speech recognition, which runs on device wherever your device supports it.

Does nutrition estimation send recipe data to USDA?

Only if you choose USDA FoodData Central as the source. Saucier sends ingredient names for lookup directly from your device to USDA, along with your API key or the shared demo key. The default Apple Intelligence source works on device and does not send those lookups anywhere.

Can I import from Paprika?

Yes. Export a .paprikarecipes file and open it in Saucier. Ingredients, directions, notes, source links, photos, servings, nutrition, prep and cook times and categories come across. Star ratings and difficulty do not, and Saucier tells you so before importing.

Can I get my recipes back out?

Yes. Export the whole library as a .sauce file from settings at any time, and share individual recipes as files or links.

Does it work offline?

Your library, meal plan, grocery list, cook mode, timers and search work offline. The assistant works offline on devices with Apple Intelligence. Saving a new web recipe and looking up nutrition through USDA need a connection.

Is there a meal planner or a pantry?

There is a weekly meal plan and an in-app grocery list built from it. You can send unticked grocery items to Reminders. There is no pantry tracker, and the meal plan does not sync between devices yet.

Can I share recipes with the person I cook with?

Yes, two ways. Share a recipe over iCloud so that edits show up for both of you, or send it as a file or a link to anyone.

Why is it called Saucier?

A saucier is the cook in a brigade who runs the sauces — the station that has to keep several things going at once and taste everything. It seemed like the right job title for an app whose main trick is keeping track of what is on.

Paste a link to something you would cook this week. Saucier is free, needs no account, and never asks for your email.
