If you are reading this, you probably already have a Paprika library and a reason to be looking around. The honest version is below, including the parts where Paprika is the better choice.
First: your recipes will survive the move
Saucier reads Paprika’s .paprikarecipes export directly. Ingredients,
directions, your notes, source links, photos, servings, nutrition, prep and cook
times, and categories all come across. Star ratings and difficulty do not,
and Saucier shows you that during the review step, before anything is imported.
Where Saucier is different
It is free, with no subscription
No purchase, no tier, no ads, no account to create. Saucier is a side project, not a business with a revenue target. That is also the reason for some of the gaps further down this page — it is a fair trade to be upfront about.
It has an assistant that runs on your phone
Ask Saucier what you can make with what is in the fridge, how much butter the recipe wanted, what to use instead of buttermilk, or how to scale it for six. It answers from your own library, out loud if you want, and it runs on Apple Intelligence on your device — so it works with no signal and your questions are never transmitted anywhere.
It can read recipes that were never written as recipes
Clipping from a food blog is a solved problem; most sites publish structured recipe data and any decent app reads it. Instagram and TikTok captions do not. Saucier uses the on-device model to pull the ingredients and steps out of a caption written as a story.
Saving from Instagram and TikTok →
Cook mode is built for hands you cannot use
One step at a time, a screen that stays awake, timers that keep running in the background and show up on the Lock Screen as Live Activities, and voice control so you never touch the phone mid-recipe.
You can plan the week and shop from one list
Saucier puts saved recipes into a weekly meal plan, then gathers their ingredients into a grocery list grouped by aisle. Tick items off in the app or send what remains to Reminders. The plan stays on the device where you made it; Paprika syncs meal plans and grocery lists across devices.
There is no account and no server
Your library lives on your device and syncs through your own iCloud, so there is no Saucier account to make, no password to lose and no company database holding your recipes. There is no analytics SDK and no ad network either.
Where Paprika is still the better choice
This is the part comparison pages usually leave out.
- You cook from more than Apple devices. Saucier is iPhone and iPad only. Paprika covers platforms Saucier has no answer for at all. If you want your recipes on a Windows laptop or an Android phone, stop reading — stay with Paprika.
- Your meal plan must sync across devices. Saucier’s weekly plan is local to one device. Paprika syncs its plans and supports monthly planning and reusable menus too.
- You rely on pantry tracking. Saucier has none.
- You keep several grocery lists. Saucier makes one list from the week and can send items to Reminders. Paprika supports multiple lists and custom aisles.
- You want a mature, long-supported, commercially funded app. Paprika has been around for years with a company behind it. Saucier is one person’s side project. That cuts both ways and you should weigh it.

The short version
If you cook on Apple devices, want the saving and the cooking to be excellent, and do not need a synced meal plan or a pantry, Saucier is likely to suit you — and it costs nothing to find out, because your Paprika library imports in one file and your old app is still sitting there if you change your mind.
If you are cross-platform, keep several grocery lists or need your meal plan on every device, Paprika is the more complete tool today.
Questions
Can Saucier import my Paprika recipes?
Yes. Export a .paprikarecipes file from Paprika and open it in Saucier. Ingredients, directions, notes, source links, photos, servings, nutrition, prep and cook times and categories all come across. Star ratings and difficulty do not, and Saucier tells you that before importing rather than after.
Is Saucier really free?
Yes — no purchase, no subscription, no ads and no account. It is a side project rather than a business. Recipes you have already saved will always stay available to you.
Does Saucier run on Mac, Windows or Android?
No. Saucier is iPhone and iPad only. If you cook from a Windows laptop or an Android phone, Paprika covers platforms Saucier does not, and that is a real reason to stay with it.
Does Saucier have a meal planner and pantry?
Saucier has a weekly meal plan and a grocery list built from it, with an option to send unticked items to Reminders. It has no pantry tracker, and the plan does not sync between devices yet.
What does Saucier do that Paprika does not?
An on-device AI assistant you can talk to while cooking, which answers from your own library; recipe extraction from Instagram and TikTok captions that were never written as recipe lists; Live Activity timers on the Lock Screen; and a price of nothing.
Where do my recipes live?
On your device, synced through your own iCloud account. Saucier runs no server of its own, collects no analytics and shows no ads.
